Care And Maintenance
Flute -Flutes should be swabbed every time they are played- Otherwise, moisture can grow mold, and damage pads. The cost to replace pads of an instrument is in the hundreds of dollars. Proper care avoids this issue. Clarinet/Saxophone -Clarinets and Saxophones should be swabbed every time they are played- Otherwise, moisture can grow mold, and damage pads. The cost to replace pads of an instrument is in the hundreds of dollars. Proper care avoids this issue. -Reeds should be removed from the mouthpiece during storage- GUNK WILL GROW if you leave your reed on, and never swab your instrument. - Cork Grease is an accessory to use as needed (maybe monthly) *Saxophones need two types of swabs to clean the entire instrument due to their large size at the bell. Brass Instruments -Brass Instruments should be regularly lubricated with APPROVED lubricants. WD-40 is NOT appropriate. Valve Oil and Slide Grease are the only lubricants to use unless specified by Mr. McCalla or your private lesson teacher. -If a slide is stuck, and Mr. McCalla cannot remove it, the instrument will need to go in to the shop for repair.
